Obedience And Maturity

Posted by Lorraine Serra on November 17, 2010 at 7:22 AM Comments comments (4)

Because neither of our young high school men read my blog, I feel it safe to share a real life lesson that happened last night and this morning.

The reason it spoke so loudly to my heart is that the principle of obedience and the consequences of disobedience are so real.

Evidently, yesterday was the big “release” day for some new video games, and each of our sons has a friend who invited...

Always In His Grip

Got a call an hour ago.  My Aunt Marie, age 92 is on a vent after a sudden bout with pneumonia.

Life can change in an instant.  She, even at 92, had her strength, health, mind and heart. We were very close as she lived with my mom and dad for 10 years, and enjoyed being another  grandma to our oldest son, Jordan.

My cousin, Rosemarie, the only child, doesn't have the comfort of knowing Jesus.  She is scared, and told me Aunt Marie w...

Faith, Hope and Charity

Just got back from a family reunion weekend camping adventure. Even though we all could not be there all the time during all the three days,  we were all together from Friday afternoon through Saturday noon.   Swimming in the lake, playing "BananaGrams", grilling burgers over the campfire, telling silly jokes, then singing and jammin' on guitars til midnite....good stuff....makin' memories.

Ever notice that...

Walking Blind or Secure ?

My friend lost her job on Friday.  After 28 years, the budget cuts landed on her desk, and with 2 weeks notice, a very long season of her life ended.

It was a real kick in the gut, but not totally surprising considering the economic climate.   She had only just shared with me about 5 weeks ago that she felt led to open up the book of Job for her next study.  Funny, she said...

Praise God for Phil Keaggy

Posted by Lorraine Serra on July 16, 2010 at 3:41 PM Comments comments (1)

Going strong since 1973, Phil Keaggy is one of those special servants of the Lord using all of his gifts to share the gospel.

An artist who has won countless awards, innovating guitar looping techniques and blending jazz, flamenco, gaelic, rock and who-know-what styles together.

We were privileged to enjoy 2 hours of Phil live, solo, at a benefit last night.

I pray you will go to this

Freedom and Justice For All

GOD BLESS AMERICA!  There.  I said it.  And I mean it.  And I don't care who thinks it is politically INcorrect, because it is actually HISTORICALLY correct.  Our nation was founded on Biblical principles.  And though we have strayed far from  being the Christian nation, the godly nation we were in 1776, the words of the Declaration of Independence are still housed under glass in Washington, DC and written on the walls of hallowed institutions, and STIL...

Relief from the Rocky Road

Have you ever meditated on what kind of punishment we would deserve for all our many thoughtless sins, deliberate or  accidental, or sins of careless words, or failure to act when we should have?

It's funny how our natural inclination for survival can also perpetuate living in a state of denial when it comes to sin.  Sometimes we can be so stuck in habitual sin, so determined to be right, even when we know we are wrong, that a cycle of confusion gives birth to dis...

WEEK ONE OF SUMMER

Posted by Lorraine Serra on June 18, 2010 at 8:56 AM Comments comments (0)

Well, friends, today is Friday and the first week of our summer vacation comes to a close.   Some folks have been out of school for a week or two already, but our cyberschool, and at least 2 districts I know of around here, just ended earlier this week.

So far, nobody is crying  "I'm bored!"  Just,  "I"m sick of this!"  We have been tackling our home reorganization plan.....well, it's not exactly a plan.   The boys have traded bedroom...

Glow & Flow Some More!

Posted by Lorraine Serra on June 16, 2010 at 8:56 AM Comments comments (2)

I don't know about you, but tho' summer has just begun, it seems it is already over!  Between the mission trips for our boys, graduations, picnic invites, summer praise concerts and rehearsals, work and travel plans, I find myself crying out "Where did it go?"

I think I'm really crying out for a return to those "good ol' days" of youth when I had no responsibilities, no schedule, just long, lazy days to sit on the swing, ride my bike, visit a friend, and ....

Bible Thumping-Glow and Flow

Posted by Lorraine Serra on June 4, 2010 at 8:32 AM Comments comments (0)

Greetings on this warm and wonderful morning in June.  Summer brings road trips for our family, and for me as I travel to speak and sing to women's groups in the area.

Just got back from "Bible Thumping" in the Bible Belt  !!   Lancaster County in Central Pennsylvania, and much of the surrounding area, is predominantly farming and rural settings, though there are manufacturing plants, medical centers, and, don't forget, Hershey, where the air smells like...

These Present Sufferings

Posted by Lorraine Serra on May 25, 2010 at 8:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Sometimes life is just so not fair!  I rekindled 2 friendships on facebook this morning.

The first brought  back memories of childhood.  She was a friend from school who lived down the street.  Her older sister and I were in the same class and she was a pal to my younger sister.

So, there we were, all hanging out together through the formative years, grade school into high school where time and moving parted us.  Well, I should say, distanced ...

Healing In His Wings Part 1

I decided to start a study in the book of Malachi this morning.

I thought, for the first time, I am going to make it a study

that I share with my friends.  So, as I study and post,

please feel free to post your comments and share

what you glean from the scriptures as the Lord leads you.

Now, I discovered as I started writing this morning that

it turned into a longish article.  So for this first one,

I went ahead an posted ...

A Unique Love

Posted by Lorraine Serra on May 17, 2010 at 6:54 AM Comments comments (0)

I served as a guest worship leader yesterday and heard a wonderful sermon from

a guest minister.  He based it on John 17:20 "Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them."

That, in itself, is a beautiful thought....to be at home in the Father's love wherever you are.  Rev. Don illustrated the uniqueness of who we are and the unique way in which God loves everybody.  First, we are...

The Greatest Mother's Day Gift

Posted by Lorraine Serra on May 9, 2010 at 7:57 AM Comments comments (0)

A little child walked along a road in a neighborhood he had never seen.  Momma had him by the hand and asked, "Do you know where you are?"  The child replied, "No".    Momma continued, "Do you know where you are going?"  Again the child replied, "No".    Momma asked, "Well, do you know how to get back home?"  "No, I don't", the child answered.

"Well," momma inquired,"what will you do if you get lost?"  "Oh, I'm not lost...

Slow Me Down, Lord!

Ever wake up and have a To-Do List so large that you know you are defeated before you begin?

Well, yesterday was such a day for me.  Besides pushing my boys along in their studies, (Wednesday is catch-up day for Ethan) there was a pile of laundry and I needed to catch up on email, get to the library, rendezvous with my prayer partner , Pat, before she left town for her daughter's graduation in Indiana, prepare to receive my music students, oh, yeah, figure out what's f...
