God’s Word calls us to more love and more power in His kingdom. How many of us are believing and doing the “greater things” Jesus mentioned in John 14:12? How many of us even have the desire to do so? It is so much easier to live on the surface.
Well, I pointed out last time that spiritual things seem a bit scary, and it is a choice. When we immerse ourselves in the awesome, unstoppable power of Holy God, Our Holy God, Our Redeemer, Our Protector, Our Provider, Our Deliverer, Our Wisdom, Our Strength, the Great I Am…..well, whose team do you want to be on anyway?
So, when it comes to Kingdom Living, and the signs, wonders, healings and “greater things” that accompany that lifestyle, the power of it all lies in what God has already accomplished for us, by His incredible grace, through His Son, Jesus Christ, the Perfect Lamb, the Atonement, the Victorious Risen Lord.
It is up to us then to access those rich gifts, remembering the purpose of it all is to bring glory to God and invite all people into the Kingdom. We should be living in the confidence that Jesus is alive, He has conquered all evil, and show it all the time. No more separate lives…church life, work life, public life, family life.
Ephesians 2: 8-9 sums it up for us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
There are 2 elements here at work, and a balance between them.
First: Grace, which is God’s part.
Second: Faith, which is our part.
And all of it is God’s free, amazing gift to us.
Grace is what God has done for us, independent of us, in spite of us, undeserved, unearned and un-earnable! Grace has been extended to us through Jesus. John 1:17 tells us the Law was given to us through Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ!
Verse 16 goes on saying, “of His fullness have all we received grace upon grace.” Wow. It never ends. His gift is unmatched and unstoppable.
This grace, this incomparable favor and blessing of God, existed before we were even born, before we could say or do anything good or bad. It was prior to us, so it is unaffected by us. It is a pure and holy free gift from God, the overflow of His great love for His children. He has already anticipated EVERY NEED we will ever have.
So then, does that suggest that we should believe it’s all God’s random grace, and we should do nothing? It doesn’t matter what we do, what we pray, God is sovereign, end of story?
Nope. If that were so, the scripture would not tell us, over and over, pray without ceasing, make your needs known to God, come boldly before His throne of grace with thanksgiving and supplication, study to find yourself approved, do unto others, feed the poor, care for the widow and the orphan, resist the Devil and he will flee!
Jesus said, “Have faith in God and faith in Me”; have faith the size of a mustard seed. He also said to cast our cares upon Him, for He cares for us. Mmmm. How to make sense of all this?
There is some requirement on our part, but it has nothing to do with “doing”, though it might appear so. Our part is FAITH. It is a positive response to all the wonderful grace of God! Faith is believing all that God has already provided, all that He has already done by grace, by His free, pure love.
FAITH is thanking Him for it, trusting Him about it, and resting in His provision as we move on in obedience and love, come what may.
Think on these things. Please add your comments below.
Here is the part that we humans and we Christians have a very hard time with because in this life, you must earn just about everything! But, God doesn’t measure my meager efforts….remember, they are all as filthy rags!
Is He looking upon me and keeping track of how much I study, serve, pray, tithe? Is He keeping a record of my wrongs?
No , indeed not! He is not a respecter of any man, rich or poor, pastor or street urchin. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And ALL of the debt of sin has been PAID by Jesus’s sacrifice, because of the lovingkindness of God.
Revelation 13:8 The lamb of God was slain before the foundations of the world! Titus 2:11 The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men!
1 John 2:2 Jesus is the payment for our sin, and the sin of the whole world, even the sin of those who have rejected Him.
Faith is our positive response to this refreshing, renewing, life giving grace gift. Faith reaches out and takes that which has already been provided. We are required to respond, we must accept this grace, believe it, exert our faith, thank God for it, live as the precious ones redeemed by so great a love.
In fact, the one great sin that will certainly send us to Hell in a handbasket, as they say, is to REJECT JESUS and this free gift of grace.
Whew! Much to chew on. These revelations are new for me, in the sense that I never meditated so much about them.
It’s exciting to consider that this is just the tip of the iceberg of power awaiting the believing Christ follower!!
I once heard this saying: "Information requires meditation to receive revelation." Something like that. I bet you get the point.
Our covenant with Holy God will sometimes mean trials, struggles. Still, we can be victorious in them, for He is with us and we know how the end turns out!
Laura Story's Song Blessings says so much. I hope you will be blessed and encouraged today!
Father, Lord of Grace and Truth;
Your Word says that You have revealed to little children the mysteries of the Kingdom. You are the rewarder of those who diligently seek You. Ask, Seek, Knock, and we will receive all that we need. How awesome it is to draw closer to You daily, to listen to all that You want to impress upon our hearts so that our lives are fully equipped to go forth in victory through Your power at work in us. Thank You, Lord of Heaven and Earth!
Halleluia!! Your love is amazing!
