The supreme benefit of practicing J.O.Y., that is Jesus Occupies You, is REST!
Rest involves a quieted, focused mind, a stress free spirit which has placed trust in the power of the Spirit of God, and a listening heart to hear that still small voice longing to instruct you.
The damaging effects of stress on our health as a result of our hurried, often cluttered lives are many. It is no wonder that God has been speaking a remedy for centuries, but have we heard Him? Stand still and see the salvation of God!
My longtime favorite has been Proverbs 3: 5 -8 " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
Asking for God to stir up faith in your heart so you may trust Him and honor Him, has a promise attached to it. Walking in faith, acknowledging the presence and authority of Jesus over your life, submitting to Him as Lord, brings a promise of health. REST in Him!
Isaiah 58 prophecies to Israel and her descendants, including us, that as we humble ourselves before our Awesome God, "The Lord will guide you always, He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land (don't you feel like that sometimes?) and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."
Isn't that a lovely picture of refreshment? The promise of God to revive you and give you health and strength even as you REST in Him!
Hebrews 4 speaks of a REST for the people of God. And anyone who enters that rest is blessed of God, for we have a Great High Priest, Jesus Christ who has made a way for us to approach the throne of grace with confidence, joy, and thanksgiving and receive all that we need from Almighty God. Jesus has paid our ransom, clothed us in His righteousness and positioned us as sons and daughters of the King. We can REST in our position, and KNOW that God keeps His promises. What a stress buster!
On this Inauguration Day, and this commemoration of Martin Luther King, we remember the legacy of those who have run the race, fought the good fight, working tirelessly all the while resting in the guidance and provision of God. We also pray for the future of our nation, and our world, and pray for the Eternal Wisdom of God to permeate the lives of our leaders that we may see a renewed and promising future.
Over all of the trials, challenges and troubles of life, we can have faith that God sees and knows all. He is the solution as we learn to trust in Him, enjoy our REST in J.O.Y.
Blessings to you and yours today in the overwhelming grace of God through Jesus Christ. Fear not. Believe and be refreshed.
