Moving forward into the “springtime” of our new lives in Christ, the transformation I wrote about last time does indeed take some time to be revealed.
Just as the transition from winter into spring comes in little bursts of life surfacing from the frozen ground, we can experience the gratitude in our hearts and the awareness of Christ’s superb and overwhelming love for us breaking out even unexpectedly.
For example, I grew up in a church going family. I heard the Gospel and the essence of my experience was to live by the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Jesus said that, you know.
So I knew about Jesus, I believed He loved me, died for me, and had prepared a place in heaven for me, just because He loved me. But, I wasn’t all emotional about it! I enjoyed the community of church…..friends, gatherings, projects, recreational activities, fundraisers.
That’s all good stuff. But, away from church, my lifestyle and choices did not wave any banners for Christ. I can’t say that I would happily instigate a conversation about Jesus. No, I never looked for an opportunity; because I was a “Christian” in label only. I had not yet sought nor received the real rescue my soul needed. I knew nothing of His power, except in the Bible stories.
Coming to that place is what caused me to welcome my Savior. I am proud to announce I need a Savior. I am relieved to declare that all I am, all I do, all I may accomplish, is because of His Spirit working in me.
In the quest to be truly transformed by Christ, and authentically live for Him, and because of Him and through His power and strength, I have become more aware that my greatest need is to come to Him and rest in Him.
Now, that doesn’t sound so hard, does it? Rest. That means to abide or dwell , and marvel at His grace, and surrender to the plan He is working out in my life as I trust Him with it completely.
Yes, it is a process. But, each step is worth the discovery of more evidence of God at work in my life.
You might be a nice church goer. You might enjoy a great community of nice people. Maybe you are disillusioned altogether with anything resembling organized religion.
May I invite you to the unbelievably adventurous life of relationship with Jesus Christ?
In the coming weeks, I will be sharing my life changing experiences, and diving into God’s word for everything we need. I hope you’ll join me. Subscribe to this blog to stay in touch! God bless you.
"Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden in Christ with God." Colossians 3:1
