" Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved." Psalm 80:3
In light of God's holiness, we fall short. In light of His perfect love, we fail to love one another well. In light of His constant care, we are careless. Yet, since days of old, those bent in failure and burdened with disappointment, entertaining faithlessness and reaping consequences of poor choices, like the nation of Israel in this psalm, are compelled to cry out for the light of God's face to shine on them once more.
How could Israel stray so far from God, yet in confidence cry out to be restored again? They experienced days when God turned His face away, because they chose to walk alone.
But, like wayward children, when they had come to the end of themselves, humble and desperate, they knew where to turn. They desired to once again, walk in the light of His countenance. Isn't that a beautiful thought?
Jesus, Light of the World. Illuminate us, O Lord, because of Your lovingkindness, to understand how desperately we need You, for right thinking and right living, forgiven and free to walk hand in hand with Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World for eternity! Amen. TOMORROW: "I" is for "Imitate"
