Got a call an hour ago. My Aunt Marie, age 92 is on a vent after a sudden bout with pneumonia.
Life can change in an instant. She, even at 92, had her strength, health, mind and heart. We were very close as she lived with my mom and dad for 10 years, and enjoyed being another grandma to our oldest son, Jordan.
My cousin, Rosemarie, the only child, doesn't have the comfort of knowing Jesus. She is scared, and told me Aunt Marie wanted all the heroic measures necessary to keep her alive.
That only slightly surprised me. Marie was religious, as many people are, but wasn't in a truly free relationship with God.
Even though she tried, she never felt worthy enough. The good news is......not one of us is, but God fills in the gap between us. He did that by sending His only Son Jesus as the perfect substitute payment for all our sin and failure....and fear. He has made us worthy of a relationship with God by His sacrificial death on the cross. We are forgiven and made whole by that sacrifice.
But, I was reminded today of the lyric of a song we sang in worship yesterday. I 'm praying it for Aunt Marie and my cousin, Roe, and I hope it encourages you, too.
"I can't live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals....I'm not holding on to You, but You're holding on to me."
I pray your soul finds rest in His constant grip.
